5 songs to prepare you for Freshers

1)    The Doors – Break On Through

Moving into a flat full of people that you don’t know is undoubtedly a scary experience, but all your other flat mates are just as nervous as you are. Put on The Doors, watch Jim Morrison be the confident man he was and ask your flatmates to drink wine/tea/whatever is available and get to know the people whose habits will now become a part of your daily life.

2)    Candi Staton – Young Hearts Run Free

So you’ve got over the first hurdle of hanging out with the strangers in your flat and now it’s late and your urge to get wasted has taken over. For the first time ever you can get as drunk as you want, go home as late as you want (with whoever you want) and there are no parents to tell you to shut up and go to sleep. Amazing.

3)    The Killers – Mr Brightside

Yes, this song came out in 2004 and is perhaps not on your list of favourite songs anymore, but it will be played at basically every Freshers events you attend and you will drunkenly scream the words with your new best friends. It’s an inevitability.

4)    Help – The Beatles

Freshers flu is real. It’s horrible and you will feel like you are dying and there will be no parents to wash your clothes, make sure there is food in the house and remind you that you are in fact not dying. Being ill away from home is not pleasant, but everyone will be coughing and sneezing just as much as you and new friendships will be cemented with piles of tissues and endless cups of tea.

5)    Electric Feel – MGMT

Freshers flu is real. It’s horrible and you will feel like you are dying and there will be no parents to wash your clothes, make sure there is food in the house and remind you that you are in fact not dying. Being ill away from home is not pleasant, but everyone will be coughing and sneezing just as much as you and new friendships will be cemented with piles of tissues and endless cups of tea.
