Orphan Boy are a band from Grimsby. This is one of the reasons you’ve probably never heard of them. Whilst the music industry was spooning you lads in trilbies or lads in Adidas (all of which are surprisingly now nowhere to be seen) throughout the Noughties – Orphan Boy were crafting two of the most under-rated (and best) albums of 2008 and 2010. Unfortunately for everyone involved, yourself included, the lads didn’t ‘make it’ like many other one hit wonders did and thus decided to regretfully call it a day. They left a raw and honest legacy, a massive gap on gig listings nationwide and a trail of people on social media realising what they’d missed the first time around. Orphan Boy were buried treasure waiting to be unearthed.
Luckily for you, your mates, and anybody else you know that likes a quality tune with lyrics, heart on sleeve honesty and soul to match – Orphan Boy are back and it’s about fucking time.
‘Beats Like Distant Tides’, the first single from their forthcoming album ‘Coastal Tones’ is a return to form with a web of whirring guitars, infectious up tempo drums and Bob Orphan’s trademark lyrical prowess unleashing a North Sea’s worth of emotion. The music video provides a perfect accompaniment, showcasing a lonely and futile race against time, shot on the far end of the lads’ local beach.
The lads will be playing a free gig at Whitechapel’s Rhythm Factory on 8th April.
