Anushka Kartha, Film and Drama
It’s not an Anushka outfit if it’s not edgy. That edge could come from wearing black, pairing a skirt with trainers or finishing an outfit off with a military jacket; or encompassing every aspect of her style, like this one. Anushka’s outfit looked right at home on the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It fit in by standing out, which isn’t easy to do in a neighbourhood like Williamsburg. However, the most ‘New York’ thing about this outfit is the attitude. Not everyone could pull off an outfit like this, but with an attitude like Anushka’s, you might just come close.
Auriol Williamson, English and Film
Auriol’s style is quirky, cool, and undoubtedly her. Always wearing something different and unexpected, Auriol’s style is the epitome of individualistic. If you’re going to wear something more unusual, New York is the place to do it. It’s a city where not only does nobody bat an eyelid if you look more than slightly alternative, but being different is actually celebrated. It’s a crazy, crowded city, where blending in is easier than standing out, but those who dare make the city a lot more exciting. Also, it’s hard to go wrong when you accessorize every look with amazing multicolored hair.
Roselle Hirst, Drama
Roselle’s elegant aesthetic illustrates another key aspect of the New York style. Unapologetically stylish, Roselle isn’t afraid to add a splash of glamour to the streets of New York City. In her bold floral top and silver heels, Roselle personifies the romanticized image of the city as somewhere incredibly fashionable. It’s true that NYC is one of the fashion capitals of the world, so it isn’t surprising to see fashionistas strutting down Fifth Avenue on a day-to-day basis. With this ultra trendy outfit, Roselle could strut along with them and fit right in.
India Phoenix, History
India’s classic little black dress is so fitting for the Upper East Side. Her chic style agrees with the sophisticated vibe of the area, where the image is very effortlessly cool. India’s outfit proves that less is more; sometimes the more simple outfits look the most stylish. It’s also very ‘New York’ in the sense that it can be worn from day to night. A look that can be worn twenty-four hours of the day is ideal in a city that’s always in a rush, where time feels as though its moving double time, never stopping to catch its breath. Who has time for an outfit change when there’s so much to do?
It’s obvious that New York City is an incredibly diverse place. Where else could four distinct styles fit in with the same city? Clearly, it’s somewhere where no matter what you look like, what you wear or who you are, you will find a place. Whatever your style, image or aesthetic, it’s hard to look out of place in this city. It’s a city where different styles and cultures are not only accepted, but they’re embraced. It’s a place that not only allows you the freedom to be who you are, but even encourages you to be different. In a world full of judgment and criticism, it’s easy to doubt yourself and your style. But, in New York City, you don’t have to be afraid of stepping outside the box. You will be encouraged to do so, and you will be so glad that you did.
