To New Adventures

So far you may have found yourself bobbing safely along with the current, moving through life on a trusty ship, bumping along to the rhythm of the ebb and flow of the waves. That is until now, where your ship has exhausted its 18 (or so) year life span and you find yourself washed up ashore, on what you’ll discover to be a magical island; Queen Mary.

You may have lost your bearings, been separated from family and the comfort of the only place you’ve called home. Whilst this newness may seem different, daunting and home-sickness inducing; it’s also exciting. It’s a chance to pick up the shipwrecked pieces scattered around you and create a new home, a new family; one you are eager to tell your real family about.

It’s a chance to start fresh – a clean slate, if you will. You can be who you want to be, create the life you want to live, and pave the way to a future you wish to have through the treasure trove of opportunity you have just stumbled upon.

It’s a time to step beyond your comfort zone; your time on this island is limited, you have three years to build yourself a new vessel that will carry you into the future, a ship of memories to serve you for life. It’s a time of friendships and bravery, and not to mention, hard work. Looking forward, three years may seem like an awfully long time to build a ship, but looking backwards it’s the mere blink of an eye.

Make the most of your time here, get involved, find your crowd and don’t sweat the small stuff. You may have lost your bearings, but with time, you’ll find your footing.

So go forth, adventure awaits; the world is your oyster and this island of a campus is just the beginning…

…to grow is not to timidly sit on some safe shore
