It is no secret that Netflix has been growing as a media company over the past few years, and has claimed its place in the world of film and television. With original series and films, with a catalogue containing new and old releases to be watched from the comfort of your own home (or any other place of your choice, if you’ve got an iPod or iPad to hand), Netflix has stolen the hearts of many.

Black Mirror

If this show isn’t already on your watch list, it most definitely will be now. Netflix just recently released the fourth season of Black Mirror and without going into spoiler territory, it’s pretty amazing. With the success of the previous three seasons, the fans of the show were waiting for something spectacular, and that’s what they got. Black Mirror does not disappoint at delivering good stories, with intriguing plots, and touching on many topics that are considered sensitive or forgotten. It is a show about social criticism in the subtlest way, while still giving us some amazing lines, performances and entertainment. You should definitely add this show to your watch list if you haven’t already!

Mindhunter

A show that features an old Glee cast member, a plot about serial killers and likable characters doesn’t sound like a fine fusion for a recipe of success. And yet it has proven to be just that. This series has more of a dark and serious feel to it, with suspense bleeding from the FBI-based plotline. Unlike other serial killer shows, this one delves into the psychological side of what turns someone into a serial killer, besides honing in on what it is like to investigate serial killers and how much it can affect a person. The main character is too much of a dork for you not to fall in love with him in the first episode and David Fincher directed some of the episodes, making it more worthwhile to watch. If you like a good crime/police drama, then this is definitely for you.

The Sinner

Whilst The Sinner was a very disturbing series for me, making me very anxious at times, something about it didn’t let me quit as I binge-watched the entire series in two days. I’m not sure whether it was the amazing performances or the way the series makes you question every plot point delivered. But either way, it makes you want to continue watching to figure out what is happening. This show was able to get me hooked because in a way, I pitied the main character and wanted to know what would happen to her at the end. Now, this might not be the perfect series for everyone as it has some very explicit and gory scenes, but it is definitely addicting if you enjoy this type of content.

Dark

Dark generally follows in the footsteps of Stranger Things, another successful series for Netflix that I’m sure you’re all familiar with. It is a supernatural sort of series and the amount of suspense is ridiculous, but once you’ve started, there is no way you can stop watching. It’s the perfect series to watch over the weekend, preferably at night: this way you get the full experience. The psychological terror (that’s what I’m going to call it) is probably going to play with your mind for a bit. Then it’ll leave you with so many questions that emailing Netflix asking for the next season might not sound like a crazy idea. Despite this, the series lacks originality as it reminds you of Stranger Things too much for it to be a coincidence.Nevertheless, the show is a solid one when it comes to binge-watching.

Voltron

For those of you who love animated series as much as I do, Voltron is a must-see. This show is a partnership between Netflix and DreamWorks which turned out very well. With 20-minute-long episodes, Voltron has a special place in my heart and as much as I want to take my time with each episode, every time a new season comes out, I always end up watching it all in one go. It’s just really good. If you like animated series, space adventures, sassy characters, a good plot line and intergalactic war, this is the show for you. And if you don’t, well, this is still a very good show if you are searching for something new and different.

Warning: Getting too attached to animated characters.

Riverdale

Now, Riverdale is technically not a Netflix Original series, although here in Europe they do promote the series this way. Nevertheless, Riverdale comes out with a new episode every week on Netflix and should be considered a partnership between the CW and Netflix. It’s an amazing series, although it might be a bit restricted when it comes to audience. With drama, a sprinkle of comedy and a lot of high school plot lines, Riverdale is worth the watch, especially for its dark-ish tone that goes against the other teen series. Bad news: you can only binge-watch the first season so far, as season two is still airing.  But do not worry, you can still catch new episodes every Thursday on Netflix!

Nº of Seasons: 1 and an on-going second season.

Warning: A lot of drama.

Score: 4/5
