If you are chocaholic (like me) then this is definitely the right place for you. After working hard on assignments for months, I decided it was time to treat myself to a day out and what better place to go than a place filled with chocolate delicacies? My friends and I decided to do an afternoon tea at ‘The Chocolate Room’ in Harrow and I am delighted to report that it did not disappoint. The restaurant was small and cosy which made the experience feel more personal as the staff could really focus on each customer at a time. The decor of The Chocolate Room consisted of a brown colour scheme to add to the overall chocolatey experience. There was also a case which displayed gift hampers filled with pieces of chocolate, mugs and hot chocolate powders- all of which screamed out at you to be purchased as you walked by. They were so tempting in fact, that I am confident in saying that no person alive possesses the will power to resist buying something to take home with them! The front counter was further lined with delicious looking chocolate truffles which means that as soon as you walk in, you are immersed into a world of chocolate. The perfect kind of world if you ask me!
Overall, there are 23 flavours of hot chocolate to choose from including: Coconut, Tiramisu, Raspberry, Banana, Pistachio and even Chilli. We opted for Hazelnut, Caramel and of course a the Classic Hot Chocolate flavour which you can’t go wrong with. The Hot Chocolates were divine, so divine in fact that I think I might have finished mine within 5 minutes. I practically inhaled it. Each hot chocolate came served in a quirky little cup which added to the experience and they were also all served with shots of warm melted Belgian chocolate on the side (these shots will give you a food coma not a hangover). The warm chocolate simply melted in our mouths and kept my friends and I quiet the whole time as we savoured the heavenly taste. There is a flavour that fits all but if you’re not like me, who has an intense love for hot chocolate, and prefer tea or coffee, then there is also a selection of those on offer too.
We then moved on to the afternoon tea; having never been to one this was on the top of my bucket list. As a vegetarian I was anxious about the options that they would have for us, but the manager was so lovely, and he ensured that all the Finger sandwiches were vegetarian. We had soft cheese and cucumber, pesto and butter and Hummus and red pepper (my favourite flavour combo) and last but not least, your classic cheese and onion. But if you are a non- vegetarian they also have plenty of options for you too. We were served warm scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, macaroons and a selection of cakes and pastries. If you have a sweet tooth this is definitely the place for you. In addition to the afternoon tea, they serve waffles, pancakes and ice cream. They even do CHOCOLATE FONDUE! This is served with strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, waffle pieces, chocolate twists and pretzels. I was too full from the afternoon tea to venture into the other desserts but that means that I may need to make another trip there, purely for journalistic purposes of course…
