Soul music is the type of music that to state the obvious, really speaks to the soul. The emphasis on vocals, and the intertwining elements of rhythm and blues and gospel, creates a sound so unique and full of passion. It really is as if the heart itself is singing. Whenever I listen to soul (every week due to the fact my Dad is a huge fan of this genre!), I feel the hairs on the back of my neck literally stand on end. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Soho’s biggest soul night is being re-launched at 100 Wardour St next month. In spectacular style Jermain Jackman, winner of BBC’s The Voice 2014, will be kicking off the launch on Tuesday the 18thof September with a live performance.
Jermain – whose voice has been compared to the legendary Luther Vandross- will be providing guests with his rich velvet baritone, and transporting them back to the golden age of Soul and Motown. His infectiously upbeat and innovative renditions of classic 60’s and 70’s tracks will have everyone up and dancing on their feet, and singing like there is no tomorrow. Soho SoulTown is part of 100 Wardour St’s autumn series which will see a different live act perform every Tuesday. On Tuesday the 4thof September, Lauren Johnson Quartet will be showcasing her rich and distinctive tones to create a chilled party atmosphere. On Tuesday the 11thof September, internationally acclaimed band Coco Vegas will take over with their signature emotive sound and stylish attire. Following Jermain’s performance on the 18th, on Tuesday the 25thof September, Otty Quartet will be putting his stamp on 100 Wardour St’s Soho SoulTown with his sensational blend of soul, funk, Motown and pop. What is certain is that each act will deliver an unforgettable night of entertainment and nothing but feel good vibes.
But let us zoom in on one musically blessed performer in particular: Jermain Jackman. Born and raised in Hackney, East London, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter has been praised for his brilliantly uplifting and self-sculpted brand of Soulful Pop. He has revolutionised the vintage soul of the past, to create a distinct soul that belongs to the future. But don’t just take my word for it, this is how Jermain personally sums up his own music, as being: ‘inspired by yesterday, made for tomorrow. People have always said that I’m a young man with an old head on my shoulders,” says Jermain with a grin. “I think my music has the ability to appeal to all sorts of people of all ages. But I’m still a young man, and I want my music to reflect that too.’ Don’t miss out on the chance to see and hear this rising star in the flesh!
Guests can enjoy the live show whist dining on a set menu: either two courses for £22 or 3 courses for £25. There is also the option to add bottomless wine for an additional £10 to keep the party in full swing all night long!
