QConsult – Why YOU Should Give It A Go.

University is all about experiences. Reflecting back on my time at university now that I am in my third year, I wish I had tried out more of the opportunities Queen Mary offers its students. In particular, I wish I would have taken advantage of the QConsult programme run here, not only do students get to work together, they are able to help a local charity or business and gain vital skills to make their CV read like gold to future employers. The deadline to be involved with this year’s QConsult is Monday the 12th of November, so please don’t leave it till the last minute to sign up to the programmes that could help kick start your career after graduation. Make use of them now and make a start with QConsult.

So in true advertiser style, here is a sales pitch of why QConsult could be ideal for you: SED students… QConsult wants YOU!  The team running QConsult really want to hear from SED students and have agreed to extend the deadline to encourage more of you to apply – the deadline is now 10 a.m. on Monday 12th November, instead of this Friday. We have extended the deadline to show you how passionate we are about helping our students and enabling them to make the most of their time at Queen Mary.

QConsult is a QM programme where a team of students works together to conduct a paid project on behalf of a charity or business.  Previous projects have included: customer interviews for a fashion company, a research project for a think tank, a marketing plan for a sustainable start up, field work research for a local membership organisation, devising a way to capture audience feedback at a local theatre and creating a volunteer recruitment campaign for a charity. As this shows, there are some great (and diverse) projects planned for you to work on in spring 2019 – there really is something for everyone.

If you have any interest in future jobs in any kind of communications role … this is a DON’T MISS opportunity to learn what it is like to work for any kind of professional kind of organisation, to solve a real problem, to demonstrate your ability to work in a team… and to meet some great new people! The programme will take place over 10 weeks usually on a Wednesday afternoon, in spring term, from 16th January-22nd March and you get paid for 20 hours worth of work. Students also attend additional training, coaching and skills debrief sessions which complement their project work and allow them to reflect on what they have learned and achieved. Applications are now open until 10am Monday 12th November.  Follow the application instructions carefully… but be reassured that it is not difficult! We do not want to test you, but simply challenge you in a way that can only help you grow as a person.

Don’t just take our word for it, previous participant reviews are as follow:

“Following QConsult, I managed to secure an internship with Peregrine communications, a marketing agency that oversees financial companies’ media outreach. Without the experience I gained from QConsult, I would not have had a solid grounding in my application for the internship since the work between the two was really comparable; problem-solving, researching, working with others and writing extensively.” English and Drama student

“QConsult inspired my knowledge of job roles that I had not previously considered. It has offered me direction for my career after I graduate and I now know exactly what I want to do, and the type of environment I want to work in. I have been taught invaluable skills, all due to being a part of the project and working professional alongside a successful business in the heart of London.” English and Drama student

Give it a go, what have you got to lose? Oh and GOOD LUCK!
