Attention all women – in case you haven’t already heard, March is International Women’s Month and Friday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day. Both of these prove that women deserve to be celebrated, especially given women’s history of oppression in the past. Although women still have a way to go until they are seen as equal to men in every aspect of life, especially in the workplace and the career opportunities available for them, progress has undeniably been made. As a woman myself, I am proud of the achievements of my sex and constantly strive to shine a light on individuals in all walks of life who represent everything that is exciting and inspiring about women. And it appears that I am not alone. Iconic Mayfair restaurant Quaglino’s has launched ‘Q Divas’ – a month long celebration of iconic women in music. An exclusive line up of talented singers will take to the stage to honour female artists through live music.
The celebrations start in true style this Friday (the 8th) to coincide with the aforementioned International Women’s Day; talented artists Michelle John and Leyla Ley will perform classics to honour legendary singers such as Beyoncé, Diana Ross and Adele. Having worked with some of the biggest names in music such as George Michael, Annie Lennox, Mariah Carey and having previously performed in concert for Barack Obama at The White House, Michelle John will be sure to give guests an unforgettable experience!
Bringing soul to the venue on Wednesday 13th March is powerhouse Kristin, who gets inspiration from Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples. The in-demand vocalist has performed with a range of artists including Sting, Olly Murs and Clean Bandit to name a few, and will be sure to bring her own soulful performance to the Q stage. On Tuesday 19th March, resident vocal harmony trio, The Bury St Belles will perform a fusion of classic and contemporary hits.
Alongside these outstanding performances, the experience of being in Quaglino’s – a venue synonymous with style and glamour and frequently visited by celebs and royals alike, guests can also enjoy dishes from Executive Chef Nuno Goncalves’. For example, they can tuck into decadent dishes such as ‘Celeriac velouté, trompette mushroom, black truffle’, mouth watering ‘Bubble & Squeak, roast butternut squash purée, cavolo nero, shaved chestnuts’ and fruity ‘Raspberry & hibiscus white chocolate parfait.’
The entertainment further continues with a bottomless brunch party on Saturday 16th March. With free-flowing bubbles, DJ Jayli will be playing popular tunes from Divas throughout the ages, accompanied by talented live saxophonist Stacey Doherty. Additional dishes on offer include: ‘Half or whole native lobster Thermidor’ or the classic ‘Quaglino’s brunch burger.’
Finally, honouring mothers for Mother’s Day, powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Berget Lewis will be performing exclusively for one night only at Quaglino’s on Sunday 31st March. Arguably the best vocalist in her home country in The Netherlands, and a finalist on the X Factor, Berget performs all over Europe and has appeared in the ‘Dreamgirls’ musical. So it is fair to say that she is more than qualified to end Quaglino’s Q Divas series!
