Sex on your Period? Five People’s Thoughts

Period sex is often a controversial topic, despite it being a decision most women have to face every 28 days or so. Some treat it as the be-all and end-all, while others are pretty chill on the matter. I’ve encouraged some friends to open up about their own experiences to create a dialogue about this sometimes sticky issue. Here is what they had to say.

What’s your sexual orientation?

Person A: I’m Bisexual

Person B: I’m into girls, so straight.

Person C: Um I’ve never really popped a label on it, but I guess pansexual?

Person D: I’m Bi

Person E: I slay poontang

Are you currently in a relationship?

Person A: Yep, but it’s long-distance.

Person B: I’ve been with my girlfriend since February.

Person C: Yes, I’ve been with my boyfriend for just under three years now.

Person D: No, but I have a few people who I regularly sleep with.

Person E: Yea, I’m slaying some mad puss right now.

Have you had sex with someone on your/their period? If not, Would you?

Person A: So, I’ve never actually had sex with a girl before. Would I? Hmmm, maybe when I’m old and I am looking to try some new kinky stuff like strap ons or something equally as wild then I’ll give it a try, but for now I’m good. I don’t find blood sexy.

Person B: Yes, people/society make it out to be a lot worse than it actually is. It was a completely normal experience; personally, I find there to be not a huge amount of difference to sex when she’s not on her period.

Person C: That’s not something I’ve ever really thought about. I don’t get periods – I take the pill continuously because I find the whole blood coming out of your vagina situation rather inconvenient. I’ve heard it’s meant to be good for period cramps though and I often find I’m hornier at the end of my pill packet, so yea I probably would – just in the shower.

Person D: Yes, I have had it, but only on the fourth day of my monthly flow. The only reason I don’t have sex on my period is because I don’t want to have to change the sheets. I don’t think I would ever have sex with a girl on my period because I don’t like the idea of having blood in my mouth, or under my nails.

Person E: I’ve never deliberately tried it, but it happened once. I didn’t realise until the end, but for me the sight of blood is not sexy in any context. When my girlfriend is on her period, we tend to slay using toys.

Tips:

  • Wear a Condom: This might seem obvious, but you can still get pregnant if you have sex on your period. Besides, a condom will help immensely in the clean-up process.
  • Try it in the shower: This tip is great for those who don’t want to change the bedsheets after. Alternatively, lay down a towel if you’re trying to keep the water bill to a minimum.
  • Experiment: If your partner’s not comfortable with period sex, mix things up and experimenting with things you haven’t done together before… like badminton.
  • Ladies Try FLEX: Flex is a disposable menstrual disc, which sits just higher than your vaginal canal, allowing you to have period sex without any of the mess.
