Prep Yourself With Primer

You need your foundation to stay in place, right? Then you need a primer. Not everyone agrees with me and that’s okay. I just think that a quality primer will enhance your foundation and other complexion products. The primer acts as a base for your make-up so it can grab onto and sit on the face easily. A good primer will help minimize the appearance of lines and pores. Let’s find you a primer on this list!

The Ordinary: High Adherence Silicone Primer

A cult classic. This has been formulated with advanced adaptive silicone particles that allow your make-up to last much longer. It works to blur to appearance of imperfections, including enlarged pores and fine lines, so it’s an effective base for your make-up. This is a non-greasy formula that doesn’t incorporate alcohol or oil, leaving your complexion looking fresh rather than shiny.

Milk Makeup: Hydro Grip Primer

Another cult classic on the market and for good reasons. It’s formulated with plant-derived oils alongside the moisturising and soothing aloe water, cherry blossom, hyaluronic acid and B Vitamins. The primer is fabulous at moisturising the skin and giving it an all-day hold thanks to the blue agave extract that forms an invisible layer to grip your make-up. Laura Mercier: Pure Canvas Primer Illuminating

This is an illuminating primer that brings a healthy glow to the skin. It will create the perfect flawless canvas for make-up and extended wear. Its formula is infused with porcelain flower extract and a gorgeous blend of micronized pearls. The pearls reflect the light, in turn, visibly refreshing dull or tired skin. You just need a little bit to go a long way.

Hourglass: Veil Mineral Primer

A primer with multiple effects. Yes, it provides the perfect base for make-up, it also minimises the appearance of pores, fine lines and conceals redness. This has staying power unlike any other as it ensures your make-up can hold up in the toughest conditions – it’s perfect for waterproof products. This primer glides on like a dream, doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. It’s oil-free and contains SPF 15.

Bobbi Brown: Primer Plus Radiance SPF 35

The first primer I used, and I still love it to this day. This primer got me through long nights at the club and the long days running from class to class. It’s a multitasking primer that is designed to enhance the quality of your foundation, blur imperfections, even out skin tone and illuminate the complexion. This illuminates your complexion with ultra-fine pearl pigments and prevents sun damage with UVA and UVB protection.

Estee Lauder: The Illuminator

This is a luminous face primer that will brighten, smooth and hydrate your skin for a healthy and dewy finish. A small amount goes a long way in helping your foundation go on effortlessly. You can also use this primer as a highlighter. You can now be radiant underneath and over your make-up. You can even mix it into your foundation for a dewy effect overall.

Charlotte Tilbury: Wonderglow

Another fantastic illuminating primer. The florescent core light diffuser re-emits light around the face and soft focuses so it reduces the appearance of imperfections and wrinkles. The bionymph peptide helps plump and smooth the skin. The hyaluronic acid keeps the skin hydrated. The rosehip oil revitalises the skin, while the camellia oil moisturisers for dewy-looking skin.

MAC: Prep + Prime Natural Radiance

You got to give it to MAC, they know how to make a good primer, one that hydrates your skin properly before applying make-up. It contains Vitamins C and E that protect your skin with antioxidants while the caffeine calms your skin. The radiant yellow is especially effective on deeper skin tones while the radiant pink is more effective on fairer skin tones. With this primer, you will be left a glow, and a primer that controls your oil.

Chanel: Le Blanc De Chanel

The thought that goes into the skincare at Chanel is amazing. This primer illuminates your complexion and evens out your skin’s texture. It contains witch hazel extract which is used to reduce the appearance of pores while the silica and mica powders of mineral origin mattify the complexion. The primer also contains liquorice extract to even out the skin’s lecture. You skin will be moisturised and the softness will be restored.

Dior: Backstage Face & Body Primer

The skincare at Dior is also great. This primer is a wonderful base for both the face and body. A plumper and brighter complexion alongside blurred imperfections. This primer also blurs redness and mattifies the skin all day. This has a fine and non-oily texture. The formula also contains high concentration of glycerin and shea butter for added hydration.
