Setting your face

A setting powder and a setting spray are two of the most important products to have in your make-up collections: they help keep your make-up set throughout the day and prevent oiliness. Yes, there are some products that make you crease, give you an overly matte finish and cause flashback in your pictures. Although, they can help control the products on your face, and that is a necessary for those who are wearing their make-up for a really long time throughout the day. Let’s get started!

Setting Powders

Glossier: Wowder (£18.00)

A truly wonderful finishing powered that will blur the appearance of your pores, sets your make-up and cuts down the excess shine on your skin. This is a product that will help you gain control of the dewiness of your skin thanks to this blotting powder. You won’t be left with a chalky film, or caking of your fine lines, nor will it give you flashback. This brand is about dewy skin, so you know this light-reflecting powder won’t leave you without any, so you can set your face and still have a radiant complexion.

Beauty Bakerie: Flour Setting Powder (£22.50)

A powder that will get you through a seriously long day, ensuring your foundation stays in place, and this powder won’t remove any of that natural or added glow. This powder has a fantastic ‘blurring’ effect. It’s a cult product favoured by make-up artists for a reason.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics: Magic Star Setting Powder (£21.25)

Jeffree Star is the king of baking, pun intended, and he delivers with his legendary setting powders. You’ll forget that creasing is a thing with this powder. If you want your make-up secured all day and the oil away, then this is a great product to invest in. These setting powders are weightless and come in a variety of shades.

Bobbi Brown: Sheer Finish Loose Powder (£30.00)

Bobbi Brown is going to have your back all day with this long-lasting setting powder. This powder is oil-absorbing and oil-free. It is even infused with Vitamin E for a comfortable wear. If you have oily skin or prefer a lighter powder, then this is the powder for you.

Laura Mercier: Translucent Loose Setting Powder Glow (£30.00)

A staple setting powder in many of our beauty drawers. It is popular for a reason! This product will still let you glow without adding weight or texture to your foundation. You just need a little bit to avoid any creasing or caking.

Kevyn Aucoin: Loose Powder Universal (£32.00)

A great example of a universal setting powder that works. It’s seriously silky. It will also brighten and even your skin for a more flawless finish. I recommend using a beauty puff for this one as it will help the lightweight powder blend into your skin better. You should get this one if you’re looking for a more sheer and natural coverage.

Charlotte Tilbury: Charlotte’s Genius Magic Powder (£33.00)

A powder that I have recently been obsessed with. It blurs blemishes and reduces the appearance of dark shadows, so it has really helped me out on those days I barely managed to get any beauty sleep. If you have combination skin this is a great pick. It is a sebum absorber and reduces shine, but it also has oils that nourish, soften and protect your skin.

Giorgio Armani Beauty: Micro-Fil Loose Powder (£38.00)

If you want a natural look that is also long-lasting the Micro-Fil Loose Powder is an excellent buy. It is a very light loose powder that leaves your foundation looking fresh and radiant rather than matte and photoshopped. It reduces the shine and enhances the complexion with its light-diffusing particles.

Chanel: Natural Finish Loose Powder (£40.00)

If you are about to embark on a photoshoot then this isn’t the powder for you. If you are about to spend the day outside, then this is the powder for you. This has light-reflecting and colour-correcting pigments. It is a loose powder that mattifies your skin and foundation without drawing attention to fine lines. You will be left with a naturally even and radiant complexion. It is a great option for dry, combination and normal skin.

Hourglass: Veil Translucent Setting Powder (£42.00)

A brilliant option for those wanting to minimize the appearance of their pores. It has soft-focus and light-reflecting particles for an instant blurring effect. It is another fantastic universal and translucent formula. It is also one of the better powders to prevent creasing under the eyes.

Setting Sprays

Morphe: Continuous Setting Mist (£15.00)

My tried and true setting spray. This setting spray has helped my makeup through those long days in the library and those explosive clubbing moments with champagne being sprayed everywhere. In the winter and the summer, this can has pulled through for me, and my make-up has not melted, caked or faded.

Urban Decay: All Nighter – Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray (£20.80)

My second-favourite setting spray, only because it is a pump bottle, which is not how I personally like to finish my make-up routine. It’s still an amazing weightless setting spray that makes sure your make-up will stay on all night. It will also help your make-up survive anything the day or the night throws your way.

Bobbi Brown: Primer Plus Hydrating Spray (£22.50)

I am recommending this product is an all-rounder. It will prep your skin for foundation by hydrating it and will give your skin a radiant glow once you have finished applying your make-up. You can also use it throughout the day to refresh your skin. This is for those who are wearing make-up on a slower and shorter day.

Milk Makeup: Blur Spray (£23.75)

I am recommending this product for those who want a blurring effect with their setting powder and setting spray. It minimizes the appearance of your pores and fine lines. This spray will also cut out the shine and mattify the skin which leaves you with a great soft-focus effect. Don’t worry, it will also get you through the day!

Cover FX: High Performance Setting Spray (£24.00)

If you’re in the market for a great alcohol-free option, then this is the option for you. It is weightless and quick drying, too. It prevents cracking, settling and fading. If you also want something that is multi-functional then you’ve come to the right place. It simultaneously protects your skin against pollution which is perfect since we’re in the city.

Marc Jacobs Beauty: Re(cover) Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist (£25.00)

If you want something that is hydrating, then this is the setting spray for you. It leaves you with a dewier glow and is great for keeping your face moisturized with make-up throughout the day. It fixes your make-up well and leaves you looking radiant. It works extremely well with their Under(cover) Perfect Coconut Face Primer, I highly recommend buying them as a duo!

YSL Beauty: Top Secrets Makeup Setting Spray (£28.00)

Another great option for those of you who want to set your make-up and simultaneously hydrate your skin. This is a great product for you if you’re into the skincare aspect of products.

Anastasia Beverly Hills: Dewy Set Setting Spray (£27.00)

Another setting spray that leaves you with a more radiant and dewy finish. This is a gentle formula with a water-based mist that applies weightlessly.

Kate Somerville: UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray (£32.00)

This spray is excellent for culminating your skincare and make-up routines. This spray provides a strong amount of SPF to protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun. It still sets your make-up and reduces your shine. It hydrates your skin with the hyaluronic acid while giving a matte-finish thanks to the silicone powder. Ideal for those with normal or combination skin.

Dior: Backstage Airflash Radiance Mist (£34.00)

This is a fantastic long-lasting setting spray. It enhances the glow of more radiant foundations and sustains the vitality in a bottle you just purchased. The spray is great for preventing fading, melting, cracking and sliding. This spray is packed with hyaluronic acid and maintains the hydration of your skin. Be sure to pick up this can for sustained plump skin.

We’re getting longer days, so after you’ve finished experimenting with your make-up, make sure to try one of these setting powders and setting sprays!
