The physical graduation has been postponed. That’s not going to stop us from crossing the online podium stylishly in the meantime.
I pitched this idea a few months ago for the final physical issue of our magazine in the academic year. There have been many changes as to how we approach life, society and events this year. There is one major event that the finalists, including myself, have been waiting for. Graduation. It has been postponed until we can hold a physical one, until then we have a virtual graduation to tide us over, and this is the case for most universities. My original pitch focused on different outfits for graduation. Just because we’re having a virtual graduation before our in-person ceremony, it doesn’t mean we can’t still rock awesome outfits on such a momentous day! To all my fellow finalists these are some ideas for the virtual graduation. Don’t you worry, I still have lots of ideas for the in-person ceremony, and I’ll be ready with another fabulous list when we can all be together in the coming months.
You can rarely go wrong with a soft pink and that’s why I’ve chosen this cold shoulder satin dress. It’s light and works well on a (hopefully) sunny graduation day. Just because you’re graduating university, it doesn’t mean you can’t blend sophisticated and youthful together.
It’s taken many years of hard work to get to this point, you may as well dress like royalty, even if you’re still at home until the physical graduation ceremony. The yellow satin of this dress is jaw dropping and you will certainly stand out even if you’re all miles away from each other.
A classic style of dress. I’ve chosen this pattern because it balances out the sexy slit of the dress. Grab your favourite kitten heel sandals for this one! You can wear this for any celebration and it’s easy to wear through the long day of celebrating.
This dress stands out because of the ombre colour of the satin and the detailing towards the hem. It’s unlike other satin dresses and that’s why you should pick this one up to celebrate your virtual graduation. The colours are also unique and will easily guide you on how you want to do your makeup!
Never be afraid of an awesome fabric design. There are more patterns beyond all the floral designs we’re currently seeing this season. The silhouette of this dress is to die for. It keeps in trend with all the frills we’re getting in this fashion season but will help you stand out with this beautiful fabric.
Again, I’m a sucker for a good fabric. Here you’ll find two gorgeous designs. This design is beautiful to wear for a chill day at home or a momentous occasion. You just need to pair it with your favourite shoes and bring a bottle of champagne along with you.
This is the dress you’re going to wear for your virtual graduation and physical graduation. It’s sleek, it’s chic and it’s everything you could want from a 90s dress. This slip dress is available in white and that’s the colour you should be picking ASAP!
The little details of this dress make it so beautiful. The button detailing and fitted bodice take this from an evening dress to a classy graduation dress that you can show off virtually and physically. I recommend pairing this with a white or brown pair of shoes and getting a few of your favourite pearl clips in your hair.
Not everyone wants to wear a dress! That’s perfect because I am also wearing a jumpsuit for the virtual celebration. This jumpsuit has a seductive plunging neckline and asymmetric shoulder straps. It’s all about the flared hem slits at the front though.
An alternative to a dress is the skirt and top combo. I suggest picking a satin skirt in champagne or black with a slit. This one will work well with many different tops, so you can wear something during the day during the virtual celebration, then you can change in the evening when you continue the celebrations in the night.
The power suit is the power move for those of us who aren’t really into dresses. However, black isn’t going to be the most powerful choice, so let’s dive into colour. I would normally opt for reds and pinks, but there are some beautiful yellow and green tones, and this lemon blazer and matching trousers takes the cake!
You can take tops like these from a casual setting to a formal setting. That’s why it’s perfect for a virtual and physical graduation alike. The square neckline, strap ties and smocked back bodies makes this a cute top for those casual days and a sophisticated top for special occasions.
This top will pair well with flair trousers or a satin skirt with a slit for those looking for an alternative to a dress. The olive green is a rare colour to come by on a graduation day, so pick up this sleeveless v-neck top with ruffled armholes and stand out on this special day!
