Dry Shampoo: Using Them & Loving Them

For me, dry shampoo is a blessing, mostly because it saves me from having to wash my hair every single day. The workouts have never helped my situation, nor has the running to and from public transport, and the constant addition of hair products to keep my ponytail in place. A dry shampoo basically reduces the grease in your hair without requiring any water. A good dry shampoo will hide your greasy roots, bring back that awesome texture, and execute second-day hair flawlessly.

Just because you have a dry shampoo, it doesn’t mean you’re using it correctly, and I have had to learn that one the hard way. When I first tried them, I practically shunned them, but I never realized that I had no idea what I was doing. No, you can’t just spray and run out the door to class. What are the tips and tricks that I have learned when dry shampooing my hair?

The cardinal rule! Don’t spray too close, the product isn’t going to work, and you’re just going to hate how your hair looks. You have to give you hair at least 10 to 15cm of distance from the can otherwise the spray is just too concentrated. You then want to let your hair rest for two minutes to actually do its job of soaking up excess oil prior to styling. However, if you just spray and leave, then you’re asking for residue. You still have to brush the product through the hair to remove any excess product.

I know dry shampoo is great once you know how to use it, although, that doesn’t mean you have a free pass to use it all the time. Your scalp still needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. If you don’t know what hair products to be using then I have got you covered with the best shampoos and conditioners in the industry at the moment. You can give dry shampoo a day or two, but I wouldn’t recommend going beyond that, especially if you thick hair.

You can use it to volumize the hair. You should also use a hairdryer to better distribute the product from your roots to your lengths.
